Novatron Fusion Group participated in the first-ever political hearing on fusion energy in the European Parliament, following the first EU parliamentary fusion debate the week before.

NFG’s R&D Physicist Katarina Bendtz was the scientific expert of the event, explaining the current developments and remaining challenges with the different fusion energy industrialization concepts currently being developed in the EU, while also stressing the need for EU and Member State policy makers to step up.

”In the Lab we can make this happen within the next decade”, Ms. Bendtz stated. ”We will do our part. But for fusion to become the much needed game-changer for energy transition and energy independence in Europe, You — European policy makers — will have to do the other half. It’s about public investments, adapting regulations and get the infrastructure in place”, she concluded.

Green, safe and free energy for all is a real possibility – if we want to. Fusion is the only known technique potent enough to sustain energy needs and make energy transition happen within an acceptable time frame, and the EU will need to catch up with the massive investments already being made in the US, China and the UK.

The longed-for EU Fusion Energy strategy 2025 and its anticipated and innovative public-private partnership model is an important step on the way towards European competitiveness, climate transition, energy and tech sovereignty, transatlantic non-dependence and geopolitical strength.

Ms. Bendtz was accompanied by NFG Public Policy Advisor Mårten Löfberg, who met bilaterally with a number of senior EU policy makers on how to boost Sweden’s contribution to Europe’s fusion energy competitiveness.
